Camp Daily Structure and Focus Areas
Each day of the camp is carefully structured to maximize skill development and ensure players receive comprehensive instruction in all key aspects of hockey. The schedule is organized into targeted sessions, allowing participants to focus on specific fundamentals and apply new skills in a dynamic, game-like environment.
Hour 1: Skating Fundamentals
The first hour of every day is devoted to skating, which is recognized as the most important foundational skill in hockey. During this session, players will work on edge control—both forwards and backwards—as well as mastering inside and outside edges. Instruction will also emphasize stride length, agility, speed, and developing efficient stops and starts. This concentrated focus prepares athletes for all other aspects of play by enhancing their balance, quickness, and overall movement on the ice.
Hour 2: Stick-handling and Core Skills
The second hour is dedicated to teaching 8U players the essential mechanics of stickhandling, puck protection, passing, and shooting. Coaches will break down each skill into manageable components, ensuring that players understand not only how to execute each technique, but also how to incorporate them into their overall game. This approach lays a strong technical foundation for future development.
Daily Application: Small Area Games
At the end of each day, players will participate in small area games. These sessions are designed to help players apply the skills learned throughout the day in a competitive, yet supportive setting. Small area games encourage quick decision-making, creativity, and reinforce teamwork, ensuring that learning is both practical and engaging.
Final Day: Full Ice Scrimmage
On the last day of camp, the final hour will feature a full ice scrimmage. Players will be divided into two evenly matched teams, allowing them to test their skills, strategies, and teamwork in a real-game environment. This culminating event provides athletes with an opportunity to showcase the progress they have made over the course of the camp.
Registration and Participation
Over the last sixteen years, Krivo camps have consistently sold out, reflecting their popularity and reputation for high-quality instruction. The camps regularly attract players from the Colorado front range, the mountains, and from out of state. Due to the high demand and limited availability, early registration is strongly encouraged to secure a place in the program.
